About the Role

Our client is a VIC government organisation based in Dandenong. They are currently seeking a Financial Accounting Coordinator to come in and join their team on a 6 month temp contract with potential for extension.

Candidates for this role must have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar, CA/CPA qualification (or in progress)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to lead and coordinate a Financial Accounting Department,
  • A sound knowledge of Goods and Services Tax legislation, Fringe Benefits Tax legislation, AustralianAccounting Standards
  • Previous government experience (Desirable)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Statutory Reporting & Compliance: Coordinate the Annual Financial Statements and quarterly reports (Balance Sheet/Cash Flow) ensuring full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Local Government Acts, and tax obligations (GST/FBT).
  • Audit & Internal Control: Act as the primary audit liaison, ensuring the timely implementation of audit recommendations and maintaining rigorous internal controls and delegations across the organization.

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable Management: Oversee AP and AR functions, including authorizing weekly payment runs, managing sundry debtor collections, and developing the policies that govern transactional processing.

  • General Ledger & Month-End Integrity: Manage the month-end close and system interfaces, ensuring all journals are posted by the second business day and employee leave provisions are reconciled quarterly.

  • Treasury & Investment Management: Optimize Council’s investment portfolio and manage short/long-term cash flows to ensure sufficient liquidity for creditor and salary obligations in line with Investment Policy.

  • Systems Administration & Improvement: Maintain the Chart of Accounts and financial software (CommBiz/Computron), collaborating with IT to streamline processes and design reporting tools that meet management needs.

  • Leadership & Staff Development: Lead the Financial Accounting team by managing recruitment, setting performance targets, and identifying training needs to ensure high-quality service delivery and professional growth.

About You

You will be an experienced Financial Accounting leader with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar, CA/CPA qualification (or in progress)
